Also see the segment on this on the CBS Sunday Morning show website (search this site for link). The auction brought in over 7 million. Some individual banks went for hundreds of thousands of dollars. This gentleman had the largest known collection.
When shopping look out for reproductions, though at least they are affordable and still fun. Just don't pay a vintage price for a repro.
