I am really enjoying the books from these two great authors. Each are writing a WWII trilogy and each has the first two currently in book stores. Mr. Atkinson's is a Pulitzer prize winning history that is easy and fun to read. I had the privilege of meeting him at the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Jeff Shaara picked up where his late father left off after writing the great Killer Angels (Gettysburg movie in the post below is based on this book). Like his father's, his books are novels based on history and are wonderful.
Some funny Army lingo from The Day of Battle, Rick Atkinson's second book in the trilogy about Sicily and Italy: SNAFU (situation normal, all f'd up), SUSFU (situation unchanged, still f'd up), SAFU (self-adjusting f-up), TARFU (things are really f'd up), FUMTU (f'd up more than usual), JANFU (joint army navy f-up), JAAFU(joint anglo-american f-up), FUAFUP (f'd up and f'd up proper), and FUBAR (f'd up beyond all recognition).
